Artist's statement

In daily life, moments come unexpectedly when a place feels unfamiliar. Such unfamiliarity provides an experience that captures and conveys a sense of time flowing like water, without anything particularly special. Capturing those moments through photography and revisiting them after time has passed marks the beginning of the creative process.

Upon revisiting the photos, one tries to bring back the sensations and feelings from the moment of capturing, attempting to reinterpret the landscape as much as possible in the present. The landscapes we observe are extremely limited to what the human eye can see, focusing only on a tiny fraction of everything, and thus, the landscapes we see are inherently incomplete. I believe that these imperfect landscapes can reflect the inherent imperfection of the human existence.

Unfamiliar places serve as a medium that allows me to experience the imperfections of my own existence. Drawing upon the emotions and sensations felt in such places, I aim to reinterpret the landscape through my artwork.

일상에서 갑자기 장소가 낯선 기분이 드는 순간들이 찾아온다. 그런 낯섦은 뭔가 특별한 것 없이 물 흐르듯 흘러가는 시간에 대해서 포착하고

느낄 수 있는 경험을 선사한다. 

그런 순간을 사진으로 포착하고 시간이 흐른 뒤에 다시 꺼내보면서 작업은 시작된다.

사진을 다시 꺼내 보았을 때 느껴지는 것들과 사진을 찍었던 그 순간의 감각했던 것들을 최대한 다시 현재로 불러와 풍경을 재해석하고자 한다.

우리가 보고 있는 풍경들은 극히 인간의 눈으로만 볼 수 있는 하지만 모든 것들을 볼 수 없고 눈의 초점이 맞춰진 극히 일부분만을 바라보고 있다.

그렇기에 우리가 보는 풍경은 불완전할 수밖에 없고 이런 불완전한 풍경들은 인간이라는 존재의 불완전함을 나타낼 수 있다고 생각한다.

낯선 장소는 내가 '나'라는 존재의 불완전함을 경험할 수 있게 해주는 하나의 매개체로서 작동 한다. 그런 장소에서 느꼈던 여러 감정들과 감각들을 토대로 재해석된 풍경을 그려보고자 한다.
